BEIJING -- Top legislator Li Zhanshu on Thursday sat down with lawmakers to listen to their advice on improving the legislative work of the people's congresses at a symposium.
Legislators should implement the mass line in legislation and give full play to their role as lawmakers, said Li, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, at the meeting attended by 55 NPC deputies mainly working in local communities or on the frontline.
Li stressed ensuring the principal status of the people and acting on the vision of making development people-centered. He also underscored the rule of law to protect people's rights and interests and promote their wellbeing.
He called for efforts to invite more NPC deputies to participate in the NPC Standing Committee's legislation, and to establish an efficient platform with information technologies to make their participation more convenient.
Li called on the NPC deputies to strengthen the sense of mission and exercise their statutory rights of enacting laws responsibly.
The deputies should also study law and professional knowledge in other aspects to improve their capability of lawmaking, Li said.
