As a deputy to the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), Sun Jingnan, a senior welder at the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC)'s Nanjing Puzhen Co Ltd, has stayed committed to performing her duties while holding a strong work ethic inspired by a Tang Dynasty (618-907) poem, which says: "learning is not like appreciating a flower ostensibly but needs a probe of the roots.”
The lawmaker regularly visits workers to listen to their grievances and opinions, collect suggestions and help solve problems facing the industry and society in general.
"I have been responsible for training frontline workers for many years and have frequent contact with young people in the industrial sector. Many of them are willing to improve their skills, but the country has not yet established an effective training system,” Sun said while explaining why she submitted a motion in 2018 on cultivation of high-skilled workers.
During the NPC session in 2020, she proposed that an amendment to the criminal law should list the act of deliberately withholding information regarding major safety threat as a crime, which, according to her studies, can effectively curb such hazards and improve workplace safety.
Over the past year, the NPC deputy has made research of the housing support system a priority, identified problems in policy implementation, and also received suggestions from many sides. At the upcoming NPC session, she plans to call for accelerated legislation to regulate urban housing support and housing rental, which she hopes will provide legal foundation for the housing system.
Last December, when the Nanjing-Jurong Intercity Railway opened, Sun said she felt excited aboard trains she helped manufacture. She said she hopes her personal efforts can help connect more cities with the Nanjing metropolitan region by train.
Sun said she's deeply aware of the commitments needed to be a deputy and she will work hard to live up to the expectations of the people.
