A team led by Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), inspected the enforcement of the Environmental Protection Law in East China's Fujian province from May 16 to 19.
The team heard a report on the enforcement of the law by the provincial government and visited cities including Fuzhou, Sanming and Putian to learn about progress in ecological restoration and comprehensive governance of inland river, domestic waste disposal, rural environmental protection and other issues. They also held meetings with local lawmakers, frontline workers and experts to seek their opinions and suggestions.
Shen hailed Fujian's achievements in fighting against pollution, improving environment for people's wellbeing, and pursuing eco-friendly development as the country's first pilot province. She also urged the coastal province to continue to address problems, make new progress, and stay committed to the ecological conservation drive.
To further improve the environment, efforts are needed to raise the awareness of the Environmental Protection Law, perform statutory duties, and overcome difficulties and challenges through legal approach, said Shen.
