A team led by Cao Jianming, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), learned about the courts' handling of foreign-related cases and the procuratorates' work on juvenile prosecution during a visit to East China's Jiangsu province from June 6 to 10.
At a meeting held on June 7, the team heard reports of the province's courts and procuratorates and exchanged ideas with national and provincial lawmakers, experts and scholars.
Cao said Jiangsu has made notable progress in improving its trial system for foreign-related cases and taken a coordinated approach to promote the rule of law at home and in matters involving foreign parties, which has boosted judicial credibility and influence and contributed to the province's innovation-driven development.
He also recognized the province's outstanding progress in advancing the juvenile prosecution on a specialized and standardized path where more public participation is involved.
Cao called for efforts to enforce related laws and regulations, improve quality and efficiency in handling cases, strengthen legal supervision, and ensure the protection of minors from six aspects as specified in the Law on the Protection of Minors.
The team also visited a protection center for minors at the Xuanwu District People's Procuratorate, the Nanjing Maritime Court, the Nanjing Intellectual Property Court, a law education base for minors and a dispute mediation center.
