A team led by Zhang Chunxian, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), visited Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region from June 13 to 18 to inspect the enforcement of the Environmental Protection Law.
Zhang recognized the autonomous region’s notable progress in advancing ecological civilization amid solid measures and rigorous inspections by the local legislature. He stressed the strategic significance of the endeavor in advancing the transition to low-carbon economic and social development.
Zhang called for efforts to enhance publicity of the law, advocate an eco-friendly lifestyle, and effectively solve problems arising in the law enforcement.
It's vital to improve regional laws and regulations, accelerate the formation of a full-fledged legal system that features joint participation of the government, enterprises and the public as well as clearly defined roles and responsibilities, according to Zhang.
Wang Junzheng, Party chief of the autonomous region, pledged to rectify problems found by the inspection team and adopt law-based and pragmatic measures to protect the region's ecology and environment.
The team visited cities of Lhasa, Shannan and Nyingchi to review ecological protection programs, such as a mountain greening initiative, a campaign for urban wetland conservation, and the actions to improve the living environment in a neighborhood,during the inspection.
