A team led by Wang Guangya, chairman of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), conducted research on implementing whole-process people's democracy in work related to overseas Chinese affairs in Beijing on June 28.

The team visited an office space provider for startups, an exhibition of tech products, a workstation for overseas academicians and experts, and the Beijing Association of Overseas Chinese Hi-tech Entrepreneurs.

During their visit to the Shougang Industrial Park, the team learned about the steelmaker's transformation, as well as protection and utilization of the legacies of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

The team heard reports on work related to overseas Chinese affairs in the capital city at a symposium, such as efforts to make sure overseas Chinese, returned overseas Chinese and their relatives are engaged in the practice of whole-process people's democracy.

Recognizing Beijing's progress in these endeavors, Wang called for efforts to expand the targeted group's participation in democratic elections, consultations, decision-making, management, and oversight.

He also suggested that Beijing should explore new ways for the group to express opinions and safeguard their rights and interests in participating in discussing and handling State affairs through formulation of local regulations.
