A team of the National People's Congress (NPC) visited Central China's Henan province from July 11 to 13 to look into efforts on implementing the national strategy of actively coping with an aging population.
Led by He Yiting, a member of the NPC Standing Committee and chairman of the NPC's Social Development Affairs Committee, the team visited various kinds of elderly care institutions and programs in the cities of Xuchang, Zhengzhou and Xinxiang.
The team focused on multiple issues closely related to the rights and wellbeing of the elderly, such as healthcare services, social participation and the building of an age-friendly society. The team also held a symposium in the province's capital Zhengzhou on July 12 to hear the province's reports on its elderly care efforts.
While hailing progress in the endeavor, the team urged Henan to gain a deeper understanding of the national strategy in response to an aging population, pilot new initiatives, and improve laws and regulations and policy measures in this regard.
