A team led by Chen Zhu, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, learned about the development of the digital economy in Beijing, on July 28.

At a meeting with the team, Li Wei, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, introduced the municipality's legislative and regulatory efforts to accelerate the sector's growth.

Chen said that it's important to have an accurate understanding of the new development situation, coordinate domestic and international conditions, and take into account both development and security to build a robust digital economy and create a solid foundation for the Digital China initiative.

In recognizing Beijing's progress in driving the digital economy, Chen called for more efforts to pursue innovation-driven growth, give full play to talent and technology advantages, accelerate the establishment of the Beijing International Big Data Exchange and put the Beijing Stock Exchange to good use.

During the survey, the team also visited smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi's smart factory, the Beijing High-level Automated Driving Demonstration Area, and Infervision — an AI medical technology company.
