Senior legislator urges more efforts in implementation of rural vitalization promotion law

Wang Chen, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, stressed that the implementation of the law on the promotion of rural vitalization needs to be enhanced to make new strides in endeavors related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the statement at the second plenary session of inspection teams of the NPC Standing Committee on the enforcement of the law, on Sept 26 in Beijing.

Wang hailed the progress made since the law's enforcement, such as the consolidated rural industrial foundation and improved environmental governance in the countryside, which has strengthened people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security.

However, Wang also noted that the inspection teams found various problems affecting rural vitalization, including a weak collective economy, shortage of talents and inadequate basic public services in some regions.

He called for efforts to put into effect the major principles and relevant provisions in the law, to always uphold the Party's overall leadership, and to accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

To realize the primary goals that rural areas should have strong agriculture, a beautiful countryside and well-off farmers, it's important to give full play to the role of the rule of law in promoting rural vitalization, strengthen the foundation of food production, enhance ecological protection, and promote stable growth of farmers' income, according to Wang.
