A people-centered approach and whole-process people's democracy are expected to be highlighted in a draft revision to the Legislation Law, which is being discussed among lawmakers.

The draft amendment was submitted to the ongoing session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislature, for initial review on Thursday.

"It's a must to advance people-centered approach and whole-process people's democracy in legislation, respecting and protecting human rights and also upholding justice," Shen Chunyao, director of the NPC Standing Committee's Legislative Affairs Commission, said while introducing the draft revision to lawmakers.

The draft revision streamlines legislative procedures and requires the NPC Standing Committee to organize NPC deputies to study and discuss draft laws, with the clarification that grassroots stations for collecting legislative suggestions can be established in accordance with demand.

Shen said revising the Legislation Law will further help people participate in legislative affairs and expand channels for them to speak their concerns.

"It will guarantee that legislation is for the people, relies on the people, brings benefits to the people and protects the people," he added.
