Senior Chinese legislator meets Antigua and Barbuda deputy speaker

BEIJING -- Li Hongzhong, vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, met with Robin Yearwood, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of Antigua and Barbuda, via video link on Friday.

Antigua and Barbuda is the first country in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States to establish diplomatic relations with China, and this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Li said.

China is willing to work with Antigua and Barbuda to consolidate political mutual trust and continue to support each other on issues concerning both sides' core interests and major concerns, Li said.

China will also deepen practical cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda, expand people-to-people exchanges, enhance international coordination, strengthen close exchanges and mutual learning in legislation, so as to promote sustainable bilateral relations, he added.

Yearwood said Antigua and Barbuda firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is looking forward to continuously strengthening friendly exchanges between the two countries' legislative bodies.
