A team headed by Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and chairperson of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL), conducted a survey in North China's Shanxi province from April 11 to 12.

During their stay in Shanxi, Ding and the team visited Jincheng city, the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the CDL, and the Shanxi Institute of Science and Technology, carried out face-to-face exchanges with local officials and members of the general public, teachers and students, and attended symposiums to hear reports on relevant work.

Ding fully acknowledged the achievements made by Shanxi in all fields over the past few years. As a national energy base, Shanxi has thoroughly followed the new development philosophy, targeted the goals of ensuring national energy security and achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and pushed for new achievements in the realization of energy revolution and the building of a modern energy system, he said.

Shanxi has attached great importance to talent cultivation, fully implemented the strategy for invigorating the province through science and education, accelerated innovation-driven development, and pushed talent cultivation work to a higher level, Ding said. To further bolster the competitiveness and sustainable development of their home cities with cultural support, he asked local universities to further strengthen their capacity building in talent cultivation and development of academic disciplines and campus culture.

He also urged the CDL Shanxi Provincial Committee to give full play to its talent strength, further deepen its cooperation and exchanges with local governments, and contribute to the high-quality development of Shanxi.

While attending a symposium at the headquarters of the CDL Shanxi Provincial Committee, Ding fully acknowledged their work since its reelection, noting that the committee should adhere to the leadership of the CPC, bear in mind national fundamental interests and people’s wellbeing, and fulfill its political duties in terms of democratic consultation and supervision over central tasks of the CPC and the country. It should also focus on overall long-term plans for modernization with Chinese characteristics and the high-quality development of Shanxi, and put in place a tier-oriented layout in terms of talent cultivation and institutional building so as to contribute more to the development of the CDL.

Lan Fo'an, secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the CPC and chairman of the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress, welcomed Ding’s visit and introduced the province's work on its high-quality development and building of an ecological civilization.

Lan said that Shanxi is in need of continuous support and guidance from the NPC Standing Committee in further improving its ecological civilization governance and enforcing law-based guarantees for green development, and that he looks forward to valuable suggestions from the CDL Central Committee on ecological conservation, environmental protection, education and science.
