Chinese president's special envoy attends inauguration ceremony of Nigerian president

At the invitation of the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Peng Qinghua, special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping, attended the inauguration ceremony of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, capital of Nigeria, on May 29. He then met with Tinubu on May 31.

Peng, also vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, conveyed Xi’s warm congratulations and cordial greetings to Tinubu, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, China and Nigeria have been committed to sincere friendship, mutual support and win-win cooperation, seeing bilateral relations achieve leapfrog development.

China is willing to work with the new Nigerian government to strengthen the synergy of development strategies, promote exchanges at all levels, firmly support each other, expand practical cooperation in all aspects, and push the China-Nigeria strategic partnership to a deeper and higher level, he said.

Tinubu expressed his appreciation to President Xi Jinping for sending a special envoy to attend the inauguration ceremony and asked Peng to convey his sincere greetings to the Chinese president, adding that Nigeria and China share similar concepts in governance, and that the two countries should comprehensively enhance bilateral and multilateral collaboration. Nigeria is ready to further strengthen cooperation with China in such fields as the economy, trade, and security and advance bilateral relations to a higher level, he said.
