In a recent interview with Guangming Online, Dr. Chalermchai Boonyaleepun, Vice-President of the Senate Standing Committee on Health of Thailand, praised China's significant contribution to the global fight against COVID-19 and called for Thailand's active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to achieve sustainable development goals.
Dr. Boonyaleepun expressed deep appreciation for China's cooperation in battling the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted the crucial role played by China in facilitating data sharing, which enabled Thai scientists to promptly identify COVID-19 cases in Thailand. Moreover, he acknowledged China's generous donation of vaccines to Thailand in 2020, which played a pivotal role in successfully controlling multiple waves of the virus. Personally trusting the safety and efficacy of the Chinese vaccines, the MP and his family received the doses to protect themselves from COVID-19.
The Thai MP emphasized the potential of the Belt and Road Initiative to foster sustainable development and collaboration among nations. He viewed Thailand's participation in the BRI as an opportunity to work jointly with China towards shared prosperity. Dr. Boonyaleepun underlined the importance of striking a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation, citing the BRI as a platform to address pressing environmental challenges, including carbon emission reduction and pollution prevention. He believes that through this initiative, both China and Thailand can pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
As the world moves forward from the COVID-19 pandemic and seeks to tackle global challenges, Dr. Boonyaleepun's commendation of China's COVID-19 efforts and endorsement of the Belt and Road Initiative underscore the significance of international cooperation in advancing sustainable development goals.
