Senior officials who were granted letters of appointment took an oath of allegiance to the Constitution at a ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Sept 1, after the conclusion of the fifth session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee. Li Hongzhong, vice-chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the ceremony.

The oath takers included Wang Yi, who was appointed as minister of foreign affairs at the fourth session of the 14th NPC Standing Committee, Xu Hongcai, who was appointed as chairperson of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the NPC and chairman of the Budgetary Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee at the fifth session of the 14th NPC Standing Committee, as well as Chen Fuli and Feng Yi, who were both appointed as deputy secretary-generals of the NPC Standing Committee.
