At the invitation of the National Assembly of Botswana, Peng Qinghua, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People's Congress (NPC), led a delegation to Botswana from Sept 24 to 26, during which he met with Slumber Tsogwane, acting president of Botswana, PhanduSkelemani, speaker of the National Assembly of Botswana, and Kgosi Puso Gaborone, chairman of the House of Chiefs of Botswana.

Peng said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Botswana relations have maintained a good momentum of development. China is willing to work with Botswana to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, enhance political mutual trust, and continuously deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation, he said, noting that the NPC of China is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the National Assembly of Botswana to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

He also introduced the Chinese modernization, China’s whole-process people's democracy and its economic and social development.

The Botswanian side thanked China for its long-term support and assistance to the country, saying that it firmly upholds the one-China principle and will make joint efforts with China to carry out mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation to promote bilateral relations to a higher level.

During his stay in Botswana, Peng also visited local traditional tribes, surveyed the Confucius Institute at the University of Botswana, and held discussions with teachers and students there.
