HONIARA -- Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, was invited to the Solomon Islands from Sunday to Tuesday to attend the opening ceremony of the Pacific Games and met respectively with Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare, Speaker of the National Parliament John Patteson Oti, opposition leader Matthew Wale, among others.
Cai warmly congratulated on the opening of the Pacific Games and wished it a complete success.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Solomon Islands more than four years ago, bilateral relations have developed rapidly and become a model of solidarity and cooperation between developing countries, he said.
China firmly supports the Solomon Islands in safeguarding sovereignty, security and development interests, and stands ready to work with the country to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, further deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields and bring benefits to people of the two countries.
The Solomon Islands side thanked China for providing strong support for the country to host the Pacific Games, saying that bilateral relations have achieved fruitful results since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
The Solomon Islands will firmly adhere to the one-China principle, continuously deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, learn from China's governance experience and push for new achievements in the development of bilateral relations.
