At the invitation of the government of Argentina, Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Wu Weihua attended the inauguration of President of Argentina Javier Milei on Dec 10 in Buenos Aires, capital of Argentina.
Wu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People's Congress, met with Milei on Dec 11, and conveyed Xi's warm congratulations and good wishes to him, noting that since the establishment of diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago, the China-Argentina relations have maintained a sound momentum, and bilateral cooperation results have benefited the people of both countries.
He said that China highly values the development of China-Argentina relations and stands ready to work with the new Argentine government to uphold mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and to promote the sustained and in-depth development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Milei thanked President Xi for sending a special envoy to attend the inauguration and asked Wu to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to Xi.
He said that the new Argentine government attaches great importance to Argentina-China relations and will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China principle. The economies of Argentina and China are highly complementary, and Argentina is willing to further promote in-depth development of bilateral cooperation in economy, trade and culture as well as people-to-people exchanges, he added.
During his time in Argentina, Wu also met with then-president Alberto Fernandez and new Argentine Chamber of Deputies Martín Menem.
