Deputies to the National People's Congress from Jiangsu province said on Tuesday they have been greatly encouraged by President Xi Jinping's responses to their briefings on the achievements made in different sectors.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, participated in a deliberation on Tuesday afternoon with his fellow deputies from the Jiangsu delegation at the second session of the 14th NPC, China's top legislature.
Wu Xinming, Party chief of Nantong, said that he briefed Xi about how the city has benefited from pushing for high-quality development in the past year, citing rapid economic growth and an increase in people's average annual disposable income.
"Xi acknowledged our achievements and encouraged the city to better seize the opportunities brought by the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region in the future. I feel so encouraged and proud," Wu Xinming said.
Wu Huifang, Party chief of Yonglian, a village in Zhangjiagang, said that he was amazed by Xi's insights about rural areas across China.
"He asked me about details on the development of the village, such as the operation of enterprises run by the village collective. It has shown that Xi cares and knows about what's going on at the grassroots level," said Wu Huifang, an army veteran who chose to work as an official in order to improve the lives of villagers.
"Xi said I've set a good example for the veterans who he cares very much about. He also encouraged me to do more in bringing common prosperity to the villagers and make a greater contribution to the vitalization of rural areas," he said.
He added that he was extremely thrilled to hear Xi's acknowledgment of the remarkable achievements of the village and he could not wait to share the news with the villagers.
Gao Jifan, president of Trina Solar (Suqian) Technology, was recognized by Xi at the deliberation. "He smiled and said that he saw me taking interviews at the Great Hall of the People in the morning. It felt really nice," Gao said.
He later briefed Xi on how the company has improved its industrial chain after Xi urged Jiangsu to take the lead and serve as an example in advancing Chinese modernization during a visit to the province in July last year.
"I will pass on Xi's remarks made at the deliberation to the employees, which will surely encourage them to be more passionate about making technological innovations in the future so China can be more self-reliant in science and technology," Gao said.
