On May 16, Peng Qinghua, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, met with First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Duma Ivan Melnikov and Deputy Chairman Alexander Babakov in Beijing, while they were visiting China with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two sides held in-depth exchanges on topics of common concern, and expressed their willingness to conscientiously implement the consensus reached at the meeting between the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries in various fields, and promote the continuous development of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.
