At the invitation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, led a delegation to visit the ROK from Sept 21 to 22.
He met with ROK National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong-sik and, together with Deputy Speaker Nam In-soon, attended the 14th Meeting of the China-ROK Parliamentary Exchange Mechanism.
Ding said that amid the complex and volatile international landscape, China and the ROK should stay true to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic ties, remain firmly committed to good-neighborliness and friendship, and uphold mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation.
He called for efforts to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and achieve more outcomes in bilateral cooperation across various fields, so as to benefit the people of both countries.
The ROK side said that the two countries are geographically close and enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges, and that the ROK is ready to work with China to bring the bilateral strategic cooperative partnership to a more mature stage.
At the exchange mechanism meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues such as bilateral relations, the regional situation, economic and technological cooperation, and the rights and interests of women and children. The ROK side also reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle.
