BEIJING -- The top legislature will carry out a nationwide inspection on the implementation of the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law.
Four or five teams will carry out inspections across provincial-level regions in May and June, the water pollution prevention and control committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee said on Tuesday.
The inspectors will visit Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Anhui, Shandong, Hubei and Guangxi provinces, as well as others, to examine water resource measures.
They will inspect protection of water resources, water pollutant discharge, the legal system for permitting pollutants and pollution prevention measures for major rivers. Opinions on amending the current law will also be solicited.
In other regions, provincial-level legislators will conduct research and examination in preventing and controlling water pollution.
In late August, the NPC Standing Committee will hear and review reports on water pollution prevention and control.
A string of water pollution incidents have occurred in recent years, eliciting serious concern across China.
Chen Changzhi, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said inspections for the enforcement of the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law will promote an anti-pollution drive and help amend the law.
