BEIJING -- A Wednesday meeting of the leading Party members' group of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), or the top legislature, stressed efforts to create a favorable legal environment and provide a solid legal guarantee for China's reform, development and stability.
The meeting was held to study the spirit of the speech given by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at the second meeting of the Commission for Overall Law-based Governance of the CPC Central Committee, according to an official statement.
The Wednesday meeting was presided over by Li Zhanshu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and secretary of the committee's leading Party members' group.
The meeting urged continuous efforts to be made to improve the Chinese socialist system of laws, and strengthen the foundation for the rule of law.
Meanwhile, it called for lawmaking in a well-conceived and democratic way and in accordance with the law, which is key to improving the quality and efficiency of lawmaking.
Legislation-oriented investigation should be beefed up, with special attention to be paid to regulating boundaries between the government and the market and reconciling various interests and relations, according to the statement.
The meeting stressed expedited efforts to adopt the basic medical care and health promotion law, the vaccine administration law and the drug administration law as well as continued efforts to prepare for the promotion and implementation of the foreign investment law.
