BEIJING -- Wang Chen, vice chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, on Thursday called for more efforts to promote the enforcement of water pollution control law.
Wang Chen, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the call at a plenary meeting of the inspection group tasked with examining the enforcement of the country's water pollution prevention and control law.
Wang said the inspection of the enforcement of the water pollution control law was a major task of the NPC Standing Committee in supervision for this year and vital to win the pollution battle.
The inspection should stick to the laws and regulations and focus on issues including the government's execution of statutory duties of inspection and management, the implementation of pollution prevention measures in accordance with the law, and the accountability of enforcing the environmental protection laws, Wang said.
From late March to June, four teams of lawmakers inspected the enforcement of the water pollution control law in eight provincial-level regions across the country.
