BEIJING -- Top legislator Li Zhanshu on Sunday sat down with lawmakers at a symposium to listen to advice on improving their role in advancing law-based governance.
Legislators should earnestly perform their statutory duties and play a leading role in advancing law-based governance in all fields, said Li, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, at the meeting attended by 51 NPC deputies mainly working at the grassroots level.
Li called on lawmakers to fully and correctly exercise their rights, strictly fulfill their obligations, do their utmost to serve the people, and play an exemplary role in advancing the cause of the Communist Party of China and the country.
The deputies should also listen to the voice of the people, make legal knowledge widely attainable, and be adept at solving prominent problems of great public concern in a law-based manner, Li said.
