Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), stressed full, accurate and comprehensive implementation of the new development philosophy during a visit to Southwest China's Sichuan province from March 22 to 24.

Wang called for solid efforts to accomplish this year's economic and social development goals and tasks, work together to develop the inland province into an economy with a new height of openness, and forge ahead with high-quality development.

He paid visits to enterprises, industrial parks and scientific research institutes in Chengdu and Zigong during the three-day tour. In the Tianfu New Area, he learned about the area's overall planning, development of emerging industries, ecological conservation of Xinglong Lake, and construction of the Tianfu Central Legal-Services District.

At the National Supercomputing Center in Chengdu, capital of the province, Wang was briefed about the services provided by the center to artificial intelligence, aerospace, biomedicine and other industries. At Huawei's Chengdu research center and Dongfang Boiler, he enquired about efforts in self-reliance innovation, new technology application, and research, development and production of advanced energy equipment.

Wang visited the Zigong Aviation Industrial Park and learned about the development of the general aviation and drone industry. He also surveyed the ecological restoration of Fuxi River and recognized Zigong's achievements in the cultural industry.

Wang said Sichuan has actively served and integrated into the new development paradigm, advanced the modern industrial system, promoted ecological civilization, and made strides in developing rule of law.

Under the guidance of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle plan, endeavors should be made to expand coordinated development, give full play to the leading roles of hub cities and city clusters in driving growth, support the transformation of old industrial bases, and optimize a law-based business environment in order to create a new and important growth pole for high-quality development, said Wang.

He also urged adherence to the innovation-driven development strategy, further integrating enterprises, institutes and universities in collaborative research efforts, supporting advanced manufacturing industries, and keeping pollution control and environmental protection measures in place to ensure green and low-carbon growth.

Wang also learned about the efforts of the Sichuan Provincial People's Congress in serving social and economic development through legislation and supervision. He stressed the need to improve the work of the people's congresses, advance whole-process people's democracy, and welcome the 20th CPC National Congress with concrete actions.
