Ji Bingxuan, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), attended and spoke at a seminar on the enforcement of the Seed Law in Beijing on March 30.

Ji said the amendment to the Seed Law, adopted by the NPC Standing Committee, is an important measure to implement the decisions and plans made by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, which has attached great importance to food security and vitalization of the seed industry.

The amended law provides legal protection and institutional support for promoting the seed industry and ensuring the stable production and supply of grain and major farm products, he noted.

More efforts are needed to increase publicity of the amended law via multiple platforms, strengthen law enforcement inspection, and improve inter-departmental coordination in order to effectively implement the Seed Law, according to Ji.

Ji also called for concrete actions to bolster the protection of agricultural germplasm resources and make breakthroughs in the cultivation of high-quality varieties featuring high yields and better resistance to diseases and natural disasters.
