A team led by Jiang Chaoliang, vice-chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), visited Central China's Hunan province to learn about efforts to consolidate poverty alleviation achievements in coordination with the extensive drive for rural vitalization.

From April 24 to 28, the team visited Huaihua, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, Changde and Changsha in the province to learn about rural industrial development, grassroots governance and increase in farmers' income.

At a symposium during the visit, Jiang said it’s necessary to help those who have shaken off poverty live better lives, promote broader and more sustainable development, and implement the new development philosophy.

Efforts are also needed to improve the efficiency and quality of the agricultural sector, make rural areas suitable to live and work in and ensure that rural residents are affluent and well-off, Jiang said.

Vice-governor of Hunan Zhang Yingchun, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said Hunan will continue to expand the achievements of poverty reduction, increase people's incomes through industrial development, and boost support for key counties as well as those who have been relocated from inhospitable areas in order to prevent a large-scale return to impoverishment. She also pledged endeavors to improve rural governance.
