Stable progress has been made in promoting new amendment to the Public Security Administration Punishments Law, one of the bills in the legislative plan for 2022 by the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC).

The current law was adopted by the 17th session of the 10th NPC Standing Committee on Aug 28, 2005 and the 29th session of the 11th NPC Standing Committee adopted a decision to amend the law on Oct 26, 2012.

During the fifth session of the 13th NPC this year, deputies called for amending the law to meet the needs of economic development, social progress and deepened reforms. Such an amendment will remove obsolete provisions, strengthen protection of the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and legal persons, and maintain sound public order, according to the motion by lawmakers.

The Ministry of Public Security solicited public comments on a draft amendment to the law on Jan 16, 2017. The motion suggested speeding up the legislative procedure on the basis of the draft and submitting the bill for an early review by the NPC Standing Committee, thus providing a solid legal guarantee for development needs in the new era.
