The Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee started a local legislation training workshop in Beijing on June 6 via livestreaming.
In his opening speech, Shen Chunyao, director of the commission, called for the full implementation of the concept of whole-process people's democracy in order to strengthen the legislative work and improve the socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics.
Participants in the workshop included those involved in local legislative work from 27 provinces and autonomous regions, the four municipalities – Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing -- and the commission’s 21 local legislative outreach offices across the country.
The five-day workshop included 11 courses on topics such as interpretation of the spirit of the central conference on work related to people's congresses and studies of legal system on public health, environmental protection and rural vitalization.
Since the amendment to the Legislation Law in 2015, the commission has organized training workshops of such kind every year, except in 2020 due to COVID-19 outbreak, to make sure that all those involved in local legislative affairs have been properly trained.
