Zhang Chunxian, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), called for full and effective enforcement of the Environmental Protection Law in a bid to pursue high-quality development of the environmental protection undertakings and build a beautiful China where human and nature coexist harmoniously.
Zhang made the remarks during an inspection trip to North China's Shanxi province from June 6 to 10, with a team led by him.
Zhang acknowledged the province's achievements in the law enforcement and highlighted the progress made by the country in the construction of an ecological civilization since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, including the green development concept, which is now widely embraced.
As a reflection of the people-centered development philosophy, the Environmental Protection Law is crucial to improving people's livelihoods, promoting green development and safeguarding ecological security, said Zhang.
He called for efforts to further strengthen the publicity of the law, maintain a sober mind on the daunting environmental challenges, and to constantly improve the legal system to provide powerful guarantee for the building of a beautiful China.
