Senior legislator attends NPC meeting on social development affairs

Zhang Chunxian, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), called for advancing law-based governance when attending a symposium of the NPC on social development affairs held in Nanning, capital of South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on June 28 and 29.

Zhang hailed the progress made by the NPC Social Development Affairs Committee since its establishment in 2018, especially in the protection of the rights and interests of special groups, public safety and social security.

He said new achievements have been made in developing the rule of law, including practicing the whole-process people's democracy and adopting a systematic concept in development.

Stressing the importance of putting the people first, Zhang also called for efforts to take targeted and problem-oriented approaches in legislation and supervision with a creative and forward-thinking mindset.

He Yiting, chairman of the NPC Social Development Affairs Committee, presided over the meeting. Liu Ning, secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China, introduced the region's endeavors to advance social development affairs while pursuing high-quality development.
