The coordination commission for the National Database of Laws and Regulations held its second meeting in Beijing on June 29.
Ouyang Changqiong, deputy secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), presided over the meeting, which heard and deliberated a report on the construction and operation of the database since its launch on Feb 24 last year.
The database now includes the Constitution, 292 existing laws, 25 legal interpretations, and 164 decisions concerning legal and other major issues. More than 18,000 regional and specific regulations, 686 administrative regulations and 792 judicial interpretations are also part of the database.
As of June 26, the database had received over 290 million visits and the daily visit record hit 5.63 million, according to the report.
At the meeting, officials from member departments of the coordination commission, including the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, put forward suggestions for the improvement of the database.
Noting that the database serves as a foundation to comprehensively advance law-based governance, Ouyang, also director of the coordination commission, said it has become a platform for the public to learn and use the law and a window for the world to understand China's legal system.
He called on member departments of the coordination commission to further collaborate to improve the functions and enhance the user experience of the database, and to focus more on timely updates of information, authoritative sources of information, as well as safety and convenience of the functions.
