A team led by Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), inspected the enforcement of the Law on Popularization of Science and Technology in Southwest China's Yunnan province from June 27 to July 1.

The team had a meeting with Wang Ning, secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, and heard a report on the law enforcement by Wang Yubo, governor of Yunnan province.

In the cities of Kunming, Yuxi and Qujing, the team visited research institutions, schools, enterprises, communities and villages to learn about progress in science and technology popularization and had talks with those involved in the effort.

Cai recognized the province's achievements in publicizing science to the public. He urged the province to understand the significance of science popularization in innovation-driven growth and give full play to its role in improving public science literacy in order to improve people's livelihood and promote common prosperity.

He said it's important to enhance the enforcement of the law, ensure the fulfillment of legal obligations, and promote scientific knowledge and the spirit of scientists.

To advance science popularization, more efforts are needed to support the role of the private sector, optimize the allocation of related resources, and give priorities to rural areas, ethnic minority regions, remote and poverty-stricken areas and old revolutionary base areas, according to Cai.
