A team led by Wu Weihua, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and chairman of the Central Committee of  the Jiu San Society, visited North China's Shanxi province from July 8 to 13 to inspect the enforcement of the law on the promotion of rural vitalization.

The team conducted field studies and random spot checks during their visits to cities of Datong, Shuozhou, Xinzhou, Jinzhong, Linfen and Yuncheng. They also held symposiums to hear opinions and suggestions on the enforcement of the law.

At a meeting with Lin Wu, secretary of the Shanxi provincial committee of the Communist Party of China, Wu recognized the province's achievements in enforcing the law and promoting the development of specialty agricultural products and other endeavors in the rural areas.

Wu stressed that the law is fundamental to the vitalization of the countryside and plays a key role in realizing the goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all aspects.

It's important to remain sober-minded when facing gaps and issues in rural industrial development, rural social governance, the growth of eco-friendly agriculture, and coordinated urban and rural development, said Wu.

He called for law-based thinking and approaches to accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas, as well as to enhance the living environment and wellbeing of farmers.

Lin said the province introduced support policies and strengthened areas of weakness while enforcing the law, and made breakthroughs in introducing new seed varieties, investing in modern facilities, commercializing achievements in agricultural science and technology, and developing the agricultural products intensive processing industry cluster.
