Teams of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, tasked to inspect the enforcement of the environmental protection law, held the second plenary session in Beijing on July 14.

The meeting heard suggestions from the inspection teams, relevant departments of the State Council, the Supreme People's Court, and the Supreme People's Procuratorate and deliberated the report on the inspection.

Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee, said many regions have achieved remarkable results in the enforcement of the law, such as more clarified responsibilities for ecological and environmental protection, effective implementation of important measures as specified by the law, and enhanced quality of the environment.

She called for more efforts to take a problem-oriented approach, ensure progress in the post-inspection work, and enhance the public awareness of the rule of law in  environmental protection.
