A team of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, tasked with inspecting the enforcement of the Yangtze River Protection Law, held a symposium in Guiyang city of Southwest China's Guizhou province on July 18.

Hao Mingjin, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, addressed the meeting, stressing the guiding principle of stepping up conservation of the Yangtze River and stopping its overdevelopment to promote the ecological protection of the "mother river" of the Chinese nation, and to provide legal guarantees for economic and social growth in the Yangtze River basin

Efforts are needed to ensure the full and effective implementation of the law, Hao said, adding that the restoration of the river's ecological environment should be made a top priority and green transformation be promoted across all aspects of social and economic development in the basin.

He also urged Guizhou to further strengthen legal publicity and education, ensure the performance of statutory duties and responsibilities, and make new strides in the law enforcement.

The team, led by Hao, conducted a 3-day inspection of the province's enforcement of the law, which was put into effect on March 1, 2021.
