Su Ronghuan, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) from South China's Guangdong province, has been preoccupied with publicity events on the guiding principles of the first session of the 14th NPC among his colleagues and youth groups since his return from Beijing.

Su is the general manager assistant and chief environmental protection engineer of Foshan Zhihui Blue Sky Environmental Technologies Co Ltd.

It is the second time that Su has been elected an NPC deputy. Over the past five years, he has rendered over 60 motions and suggestions, on topics ranging from sci-tech innovation in the protection of intellectual property rights, to fire fighting and the improvement of the wellbeing of the people, especially grassroots workers.

Su has paid great attention to the protection of workers' rights and interests, their income, and the education of their children.

"The rapid development of China's manufacturing industry has created a vast space for the growth of technical workers. However, such factors as the lagging development of vocational education, insufficient incentive policies and promotional channels, low income and social bias have been constraining the pace of the country's progress towards  a manufacturing powerhouse," said Su in an interview.

In his suggestion to the first session of the 14th NPC, Su called on competent government departments to guarantee the salary payment of migrant workers, enhance their sense of belonging, adopt more supporting policies, foster a positive social environment for the growth of technical workers, further improve vocational education and the training system, and cultivate more technical personnel.

The deputy said that he feels deeply impressed by remarkable development of the country and the hard-won happiness of the people, adding that he will fulfill his duties, and strive to make new achievements in the cause of environmental protection.

He proposed that the country shall explore new its air pollution control approaches and promote the classification and recycling of garbage to ensure the high-quality development of the manufacturing sector.

At present, Su and his company are working on the research and development of technologies pertaining to the management of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and air pollution control, which can both reduce the burdens of enterprises and achieve sound environmental protection results.

Su said that he will push for the building of green and low-carbon circular demonstration bases, sum up good practices and conduct surveys in other areas to learn about their effective measures in environmental protection.

Su emphasized that it is of great importance for the country to underscore the leading role of enterprises in sci-tech innovation and give full play to the role of giant sci-tech companies in the midst of achieving high-quality development and accelerating the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy, adding that he will do his utmost to make breakthroughs in major and core technologies, facilitate the commercialization of sci-tech findings, and strive to be a pioneer of sci-tech innovation in the environmental protection sector.
