The Committee on Finance and Economy of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the State Administration for Market Regulation jointly held a symposium in Beijing on July 4, to mark the 10th anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the Special Equipment Safety Law. Xiao Jie, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, attended the event.
He said that the Special Equipment Safety Law has effectively prevented, reduced and contained the occurrence of major accidents. The law has also advanced the development of the special equipment industry and effectively guaranteed the safety of people's lives and property since it came into effect a decade ago, he added.
He noted that the law should be implemented in accordance with new and higher requirements arising from the Chinese modernization drive, pursuit of a holistic approach to national security, and overall law-based governance, to ensure that the strategic plans made at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China are carried out with solid effects.
