The work safety law enforcement inspection team of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) held its first plenary meeting in Beijing on July 24, to make arrangements for the countrywide law enforcement inspection.

Wang Dongming, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, after listening to relevant reports and suggestions, said that work safety concerns are in the immediate interests of the people and the country's overall reform, development and stability. The Work Safety Law, since it was enacted more than 20 years ago, has played an important role in preventing and reducing work safety accidents and ensuring the safety of people's lives and property, he noted.

Wang said that conducting inspection on the enforcement of the law is an important measure to implement the decisions and plans of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

He stressed that the inspection should be conducted strictly in accordance with the law, and focus on the urgent needs and difficulties that are of great concern to the people this law serves to protect. He also urged for using multiple methods to track and supervise the implementation of legal provisions, as well as to continuously update and improve law-based work safety management.

Zheng Jianbang and Peng Qinghua, vice-chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, also attended the meeting.
