He Wei, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP), attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 9th Traditional Chinese Medicine Development and Science Conference on Nov 25 in Tonghua, Northeast China's Jilin province.

He said that the high-quality development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays an important part in health care through the organic integration of historical culture and modern technology in the process of realizing the modernization of a huge population, noting that it contributes to achieving the modernization of common prosperity for all, of harmony between humanity and nature, of material and cultural-ethical advancement, and of peaceful development.

The abundant TCM resources in China's northeastern region, through scientific and technological empowerment and innovative development, can inject new vitality into the full revitalization of Northeast China in the new era, he added.

The two-day conference, with the theme of the "Scientific Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Modernization", was jointly held by the CPWDP Central Committee and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During the conference, academic reports were also delivered on the topics of the national strategy for TCM development, the innovation and development of TCM, and the exploration of the diverse values of TCM.

A number of academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, TCM masters and experts and scholars from universities and institutes shared their views at the conference.
