Xiao Jie, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), led a delegation to Switzerland from March 26 to 27, at the invitation of Switzerland's Federal Assembly.
During the visit, Xiao met with Eric Nussbaumer, president of the National Council of Switzerland's Federal Assembly, and Guy Parmelin, Switzerland's federal councilor and head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research.
Xiao said that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership has developed steadily.
Noting that next year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Switzerland, he said that China's NPC is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Switzerland's Federal Assembly and implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries to push bilateral relations to a new level and bring more benefits to the two peoples.
He also briefed the Swiss side on the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Chinese modernization and the second session of the 14th NPC.
The Swiss side spoke highly of China's development achievements and the friendly relations between the two countries. They reaffirmed their firm adherence to the one-China principle and expressed willingness to enhance high-level communication and legislative exchanges with China and to deepen cooperation in the economy, trade, culture and other fields to push for new achievements in bilateral relations.
