Li Hongzhong, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has called for full and effective implementation of the newly amended Law on Deputies to the National People's Congress and to the Local People's Congresses at Various Levels.

Li, also vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks on March 17 at a symposium on studying and enforcing the law to support and safeguard that deputies perform their duties in accordance with the law and promote the high-quality development of deputies' work under the rule of law.

He highlighted the necessity of accurately grasping the significance and key content of the amendments to the law and adhering to the overall leadership of the CPC, especially the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee.

He called for efforts to uphold and develop whole-process people's democracy, comprehensively advance law-based governance and maximize the roles of deputies.

It is important to enhance training on the amended law, improve deputies' working mechanisms in accordance with provisions of the law and tell the story of the NPC effectively, he added.
