Shohrat Zakir, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, led a team to Central China's Henan province from March 28 to April 2 to survey the quality and safety of agricultural products.

The team traveled to cities of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, where the members visited a number of food companies, a vegetable factory, and a logistic city of agricultural products, learning about the supervision and management of quality and safety of agricultural products.

During a symposium held in Zhengzhou, the provincial capital, the team heard a report on the quality and safety of agricultural products in Henan province, and engaged in discussions with representatives of relevant authorities in the province, officials from the central government agencies stationed in Henan, and grassroots representatives to solicit their opinions and suggestions.

Addressing the symposium, he emphasized that ensuring the quality and safety of agricultural products is fundamental to food safety.

He called for safeguarding the quality and safety of agricultural products as a major livelihood project, reflecting on past experiences, identifying weak links, and enhancing monitoring of quality and safety of agricultural products.

He underlined the need to accelerate the green transformation of agriculture, increase the supply of high-quality green agricultural products, enhance the monitoring capabilities of quality and safety of agricultural products at the grassroots level to ensure food safety for the public.

He also highlighted the importance of strengthening the rule of law and continuously improving the legal framework and institutional mechanisms for promoting quality and safety of agricultural products to provide solid support for advancing rural revitalization and accelerating the building of a strong nation in agriculture.
