The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) parliamentary seminar kicked off in Beijing on July 15. Peng Qinghua, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Peng said that the leaders of SCO member states reached important consensus at the Astana summit last July, setting the course for the SCO's future development. As the rotating chair of the SCO, China aims to work closely with all parties to actualize the vision of building a common home featuring solidarity and mutual trust, peace and tranquility, prosperity and development, good-neighborliness and friendship, as well as fairness and justice, he added.

He also called for efforts to strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies, continuously deepen pragmatic cooperation and pool the "SCO strength" to improve global governance, so as to jointly promote the SCO's development towards a higher level.

Themed strengthening exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies to promote the building of an SCO community with a shared future, the seminar includes discussions in Beijing and a planned visit to Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
