In 1945, all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation, including Taiwan compatriots, after arduous, tenacious struggles, secured the great victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Taiwan was thus recovered, and returned to the embrace of the motherland. The recovery of Taiwan stands as a major achievement of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, an unchallengeable testament to the Chinese government's resumption of the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan, a historical fact and an important link in the legal continuum supporting that Taiwan is part of China, a source of common pride for Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, and a national memory shared by all sons and daughters of the Chinese nation. To safeguard the outcomes of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the post-war international order, demonstrate the strong will of adhering to the one China principle and defending national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, enhance the common national memory of the history shared by Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, carry forward the patriotic spirit, and inspire Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to make new contributions to China's reunification and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on the new journey in the new era, the Standing Committee of the Fourteenth National People's Congress hereby decides at its 18th Meeting, in accordance with the Constitution of the People's Republic of China, as follows:
October 25 shall be designated as the Taiwan Recovery Day. The state shall hold commemorative activities in diverse forms.
