BEIJING -- A symposium was held in Beijing on Tuesday to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Zou Jiahua, a late senior national legislator.

Zhao Leji, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, attended the event and met with Zou's family ahead of the symposium.

The event hailed Zou as an outstanding CPC member, a time-tested and loyal communist fighter, and a proletarian revolutionary.

At the symposium, Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing, also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, paid tribute to Zou's life and called on people to learn from his political character, work style, striving spirit, and fine conduct.

The event was presided over by Ding Zhongli, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.

During his life, Zou served as a member of the Political Bureau of the 14th CPC Central Committee, vice-premier of the State Council, and vice-chairman of the Ninth NPC Standing Committee.
