New leadership of Shanghai was elected during the first session of the 16th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress that concluded Sunday afternoon, according to the official sources.
Among the new leadership lineup, Gong Zheng has been elected mayor of Shanghai; Dong Yunhu has been chosen as the director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai People's Congress; Li Yangzhe has been named the director of the Shanghai supervisory commission and Jia Yu has been picked as the president of Shanghai High People's Court.
"On behalf of the nine-member municipal government leadership, we are equally immensely encouraged by the trust from the people of Shanghai, as well as feeling the responsibilities," said Gong during his speech at the meeting of the municipal government leadership with the press.
"The government work report just passed has set the targets and tasks of the new government leadership, and we will spare no efforts in turning the blueprint into a reality, which is promoting high quality development, creating high quality lifestyles and realizing high efficiency governance," Gong said.
"On behalf of the newly elected Standing Committee of the Shanghai People's Congress, we will carry on the work of our predecessors, keep innovating in the course of development, strive to make new achievements on the new journey, and make our contribution in developing Shanghai into a socialist, modern and international metropolis with global influence," said Dong during his speech at the meeting of the eight-member Standing Committee of the Shanghai People's Congress with the press on Sunday afternoon.
