CHONGQING -- China's southwestern industrial powerhouse Chongqing has set the GDP growth target at over 6 percent for 2023, according to the annual session of the municipal people's congress on Friday.

The city also aims to increase its investment in fixed assets, total retail sales of consumer goods, and total import and export value, by 10 percent, 6 percent, and 3 percent, respectively, said the city's mayor Hu Henghua while delivering the government work report at the municipal legislature.

In the past five years, Chongqing's GDP registered an average annual GDP increase of around 5.3 percent to exceed an estimated 2.9 trillion yuan ($430.96 billion) in 2022.

Over the same period, Chongqing has stuck to the path of green development. The number of days with good air quality has remained above 300 per year, and the forest coverage rate reached 55 percent, according to the work report.
